New Home Adventure Series: Meeting the Professionals

It’s week 3 of my dream home journey. I would ask you to pinch me but then I’d have to kick you because I hate being pinched. So why don’t I just sit here and let it sink in instead, okay?

Sheila, Mitch and I met with professionals at the property today.

Charles Spry, CEO of Spry Global. An Atlanta based full service Construction Firm. (He’s local ya’ll!)

Chris Knight, Project Manager with Architectural Solutions LLC. Design Build Consultants. (He’s also local ya’ll)

It was a total rush to express my vision to professionals and have them connect with where I was trying to go. As a creative, I’m so used to getting the ‘look’, sadly I’ve even given it to myself. You know the look, the one where you’re made to feel as if you’ve just sprouted another head. The one where people wordlessly convey that they think you’re crazy. Well, take that doubters! I’m crazy like a fox. If a fox had a penchant for long fingernails, bold lipstick and eyelash extensions that is.

The goal is to make the space feel like a home without taking away all the beauty of the industrial elements. It used to be a small airplane hanger, I wanted to keep the integrity of that. The high ceilings, the exposed roof rafters, the concrete floors. I didn’t want to turn into a traditional looking home. No shade to traditional homes, I spent my formative years in one with my family.

I want to marry the cool vibes of living in a space that wasn’t originally intended to be a home with the elevated elements of good home design and technology. I fully intend for this to be a smart home. And yes, I know that means that my Alexa Echoes and Spots will be spying and probably talking about me behind my back with my Google Home devices. I’ve made peace with that. As I’ve mentioned before, if my tech wants to listen to me talk to my Mom a thousand times a day, and follow my girlfriends and I discuss what we’re watching or wearing or eating and who we have crushes on or can’t stand, so be it. I get a kick out of having my home voice activated. I need Alexa waking me to Queen Bey or Badgirl Riri in the morning when I need the motivation to get out of bed and work out. Oh, and Kohler Konnect, I’m looking at you now. Who wouldn’t love having her bathroom follow her every command? ( Hmmm, maybe the doubters are right. Maybe I am a little cray…….) Oh well.

Stay tuned everyone, we’ve only just begun.
