This Lazy Girl's Guide to: Wine Down Wednesdays

Hey Lazy Girls, it's Wine Down Wednesday again!

I'm going to break a cardinal rule today and talk about wine (YAY) and diet (NOT YAY). My sincere apologies ladies, but it cannot be avoided.  We have to drink responsibly in order to maintain our current levels of awesomeness.

So let's get to it shall we?

When we consume alcohol, our bodies push pause on our ability to burn fat.  Booze is looked at as a foreign substance by the body, so it breaks down those calories first, meaning the calories in any food we eat while drinking get stored as fat, especially in the stomach.  I'm sure you've seen protruding bellies on the regulars hanging out at the local bar.  Make no mistake, I'm not body shaming anyone.  To each her own.  Life is not all about flat stomachs and perfect selfies.   I'm just saying that too many glasses of Merlot can result in our being unable to fit into our favorite pair of jeans, and if that matters to you, like it does for me, then we have to be careful.

We have one of two choices, well, actually three choices, but the third choice involves no wine at all, so I'm just going to move on past that one.  If we are going to drink wine, we can either go all in and buy bigger jeans when our waistlines expand, or we can pull in our wine consumption a little bit and stay in the clothes we already own. The choice is ours.

On the upside, a glass of really good wine can tick just as many boxes as multiple glasses of cheap hooch. Nothing against cheap hooch, my first glass as a legal adult was of the cheap hooch variety.  My Mom and I went to Winn-Dixie and bought a bottle of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.  (Stop giving me the side eye! I was broke and my Mom was afraid I couldn't handle the good stuff, so Boone's Farm it was). We picked up some random junk food, went home and watched old movies while drinking Boone's Farm.  I distinctly remember my Dad laughing at our party animal ways. What can I say? I grew up sheltered and hadn't learned the joys of wine and friends yet.

Speaking of Boone's Farm, I must bring up one me unpleasant fact before I go. I know, I know... I'm killing the vibe, but trust me, it's for our own good. Once we have all the facts we can make informed decisions.  This guide is for Lazy Girls, not stupid ones.

The bottom line is, the sweeter the wine, the higher the sugar content and sugar turns into fat. So, for all of us who love a good Moscato or Sangria, enjoy, but be mindful.  Wine is beautiful thing, but like everything else, too much can cause problems.  Some even more scary than jeans that don't fit.

Until next Wednesday Ladies! (I promise to post about something happier next time.)
